I do not LIKE fried eggs and ham…burger!

I ask you! Who ever heard of putting a fried egg – and a very runny one at that – on a hamburger?? Along with a bunch of funky-tasting bacon? I don’t think so. Scott and I went out with a couple of friends to see a movie (“Finding Neverland” – LOVE Johnny Depp, movie was great – distracting double subtitles [French AND German] notwithstanding), and then went to a hotel coffee shop for burgers afterward. Supposedly the ‘best burger in Basel,’ according to some. Yuk. If I want a burger in Europe, I will go to McDonald’s (not in Switzerland though, they’re much better in Germany and France) or Burger King (harder to find, but worth the effort when you’re craving a burger). Because the Americans just do some things better – and fast food, I mean, come on – we invented the entire genre!

We did find a fairly good Mexican restaurant in town – fairly being the operative word. It has some things that are really great – and some things that are too Swiss for words. For instance, a cheese enchilada should not be filled with Emmenthaler/Gruyere cheese…but with cheddar/jack or some other innocuous American-pseudo-mexican cheese. But still, they have fairly good guacamole. But for the best Raclette anywhere, Basel’s your town.
