I'm *not* in

Okay, I know everyone's all into November is one-blog-a-day month, but I'm so not in. I can't find anything to say, every single day. I have a bad blog attitude.

That said, I am enjoying everyone else's creative efforts. Is that so wrong??

So here's a picture of the giant Ferris Wheel up at the Muensterplatz for Herbstmesse, the Autumn Festival. We went last weekend, and it was lovely. We didn't go on any rides (dogs don't dig 'em), but we did walk all over the place with our friends. We looked at all the booths, selling some cool (hand carvings, leather goods, gen-u-wine Swiss cowbells and alpenhorns, linens and pottery) and some utterly cheesy (black t-shirts with artsy animals and random sayings, stuff made in China) things.

But of course, like any local fair-y sort of occasion, the food was best of all. We had fried potato thingies, like latkes, with applesauce. I had wurstsalat (like really good quality baloney [Lyonner sausage, to be precise] cut up into thin pieces, with a vinegary dressing, chopped onion, pickle, tomato and hard-cooked eggs..*yum*, but I'm the only one who likes it), everyone else had grilled wursts. Then we had the swiss equivalent of funnel cakes - they're these very thin cookies made by dipping a mold into the thin batter, then quickly flash frying it. They end up tasting like those deep-fried cinnamon thingies at Taco Bell (mmm, Taco Bell), only without the cinnamon. Ah, and Scott just reminded me that we also purchased two Berliners (jelly doughnuts, only these ones had vanilla cream inside instead of berry jam...yummier), which we ate later that night at home. We weren't actually in the mood to purge and then keep eating whilst at the Messe...

So, yeah, we had a good weekend. Cold, clear, sunny - perfect Herbstmesse weather.

For those so inclined, here is a link to a photo album of some local Black Forest stuff we visited recently.
